NYC Council plan promotes local foods in citywide institutions

The NYC Council recently voted on a five-bill package regarding the production and distribution of locally grown food in nyc. The foodworks plan, created by nyc Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn, intends to implement new laws to govern agricultural production, processing, distribution, consumption and the postconsumption of food in New York. The foodworks plan would affect the entire community in a number of ways. Besides the obvious health benefits of consuming naturally grown foods, the new laws could end up boosting New York City’s economy.
